Can I use a Dovetail Greenhouse as a garden room?

Another frequently asked question. Dovetail Greenhouses are not conservatories, but we build a good number each year for customers who will use them as such to all intents and purposes. This can be a wonderful way to bring the outside in and extend a kitchen, utility room or even a lounge into the garden, so long as a few key points are understood at the outset:

We make a very high quality greenhouse, but a greenhouse it still is. The greenhouse will be single glazed with 4mm toughened safety glass, but cannot be fitted with double glazing. The thermal properties will be akin to a normal greenhouse, so a normal amount of condensation is to be expected. Therefore, as in the lovely examples below, electrics and light fittings must be to outdoor specification, patio style furniture, fixtures and fittings please, and tiled floors are wonderful but carpets are perhaps to be avoided…

It is also essential that you have a secure, exterior, lockable door between the greenhouse and the property. The hand-made, heavy duty aluminium door of the greenhouse can easily be fitted with a lock and key, but must not replace the exterior door of the house.

With the above points in mind, our greenhouses have made a fantastic addition to a great many properties, providing extra warmth into the neighbouring room, dry cover over a back door, and a place to sit and enjoy the garden under cover while still being able to properly grow and ventilate plants, much more so than in a double-glazed conservatory.
