A bespoke Lean-To greenhouse to replace a tired timber one..

This is perhaps the most common enquiry we get: “We have a timber greenhouse which has served us faithfully for many years but it’s finally coming to the end of it’s life. Can you build us a new aluminium one which will fit the existing dwarf walls so that we don’t have to destroy and rebuild the entire base?”

The answer is almost always “yes”. In this case there were two complications, one being that the old timber greenhouse had been built to wrap around a chimney breast. Now this is something that we cannot usually replicate, however this particular chimney breast only projected out from the wall of the house by 100mm. We were therefore able to supply their local builder with a drawing to install a hardwood frame for our greenhouse to mount against which fitted either side of the chimney and gave us a flat level surface to mount against.

The other complication was that there were four cherished stained glass panels in the old greenhouse which the customers were keen to keep, so we made a frame for each panel which allowed them to be hung inside the new greenhouse with the light shining through them.

The installation went smoothly right up until one of the final pieces of glass broke! Our fitters sourced and fitted a new piece of standard glass from a local supplier in order to finish the job, then returned a few days later with a new piece of toughened glass from our own supplier.

Now is the time to thank you for everything. I think it is almost exactly a year since I made the first enquiry. The quality of service and workmanship has been brilliant from beginning to end. I hope you have seen a photograph of the completed structure. Everyone remarks on how well it fits in the site. The fours stained-glass windows transform it: a special thanks for masterminding that. We think they make a bigger impact now than they did in the old conservatory. We really didn’t expect to be able to re-use them and they are now portable. There are three other things that particularly impressed us; your keeping to schedule, which must be the result of good planning and organisation; the calmness and efficiency with which you dealt with the crisis at the end; and the fact that you honoured the contracted price despite what must have been a significant increase in costs by the time the work started. So once again our warmest thanks to everyone. If anyone we know is looking for a custom-built greenhouse we will recommend you without reservation. Rated outstanding!
