Collaboration with a wonderful Garden Designer
It’s always rewarding to collaborate with a professional Garden Designer and see a previously unused area of a garden go through a complete transformation.
This was just such a project. The area of the garden in question began life as just a lawn, bordering the side of a barn with a sunny South-facing wall. The wall was crying out for a greenhouse, but lacked enough height and was further complicated by the lack of space between the top of the external door and the overhanging eaves above.
Our solution? We provided a detailed drawing for the contractors to construct a dwarf wall for the greenhouse, incorporating a spacer to move the entire structure away from the rear wall enough for the return side of our roof to clear the eaves of the barn. Multiple site visits will be made during a project like this so that we can check the space available in the first place, then confirm the final measurements of the finished base.
Using two different angles in the roof enabled us to fit this lovely Victorian greenhouse with an inline porch into the limited space available. We then worked closely with the client’s electrician to make staging which fitted seamlessly around the electrical conduit and disguised it from view and even had the light fittings powder coated to match the frame.
For the finishing touch, we also made a completely bespoke double-sided freestanding cold frame to sit next to the main greenhouse and fill an otherwise dead area of brickwork which had been left behind by an earlier building project. In between each visit we could see the rest of the garden taking shape around us as the designer’s vision took shape, until we jointly arrived at the result you can see below. If you are in the Leicestershire area, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Keily Rutherford Garden Design.
